Make yourself Successful in your Studies
Start by taking action
Making ourselves successful in our studies requires us to take action. There are no restrictions in this, except the fears that may come over, to disrupt us.
This information was sent to me on my WhatsApp by one of my friends, Michael Kimuli. In the WhatsApp message, he said it had happened to him some time back when he was in an audience listening to a motivational speaker. The speaker got his wallet out and pulled out a Shs. *50,000* note. Holding it up, he asked, “Who wants this Shs *50,000* note?” Lots of hands went up, including his. A slow chorus began to build as people shouted, “Me!” “Me!”
He began to wonder who the lucky one would be and who the speaker would choose. And he also secretly wondered — and he is sure others did too — why the speaker would simply give away Shs. *50,000*. Even as the shouts of “I want it” grew louder, he noticed a young woman running down the aisle. She ran up onto the stage, went up to the speaker, and grabbed the fifty thousand Shs. note from his hand.
“Well done, young lady,” said the speaker into the microphone. The speaker simply said, “Most of us just sit and wait for good things to happen. That’s of no use. You’ve got to make things happen or take action. Make a move.” “Simply thinking about doing something is of no use and not good enough.”.
Our lives are like this. We all see opportunities around us. We all want the good things. We all want to be successful. But, many times, we fear or refuse to take action. We all want the Shs *50,000* notes on offer, but we don’t make the move to get it. We look at it longingly. “Get up and do something about it,” he said. “Don’t worry about what other people might think. Take action.” “This is what this young lady has done. If we want to be successful, we must always remember to do the same. Thanks a lot, young lady.”
Later, the speaker got another Shs *50,000* note and held it up for all to see. This time he just asked a simple question. “How much is this worth?”
“Fifty thousand shs!” the crowd yelled in unison.
“Right,” said the speaker. He then took the note and crumpled it into a ball and asked, “How much is it worth now?”
“Fifty thousand Shs.” Screamed the audience. He then threw the note on the ground, stamped all over it, and picked up the note and asked one more time: “And how much is it worth now?”
“Fifty thousand Shs.” was the response. “
“I want you to remember this,” said the speaker. “Just because someone crumples it, or stamps on it, the value of the note does not diminish. We should all be like the Shs *50,000* note. In our lives, there will be times when we feel crushed, stamped over, and beaten. But never let your self-worth diminish. Just because someone chooses to crush you, doesn’t change your worth one bit! Don’t allow your self-worth to diminish because someone says something nasty — or does something dirty — to you.” Never let your self-worth diminish …”
With this story in your mind, you may have realised that many of us are like this. We never take action or have courage to pursue what we want to become in life. We just live our lives as cowards because we become afraid to move out of the comfort zone. Yet, it is not the comfort zone as we think, but it is the lazy zone or the cowardice zone, the conformist zone, the average zone, the mediocre zone, or the timid zone.
School time is not only an opportunity for you to study but also, a chance to overcome challenges that may come to you. There may never be any other opportunity like this. For this reason, use this chance to make your life better because if you make your life better, everything around you shall also become better. However, the opposite is also true. If you don’t make your life better, say, you make your life worse, everything around you shall also become worse. It is therefore up to you to either make yourself better or make yourself worse.
As you struggle to make yourself better, never forget that your positive or negative mindset is waiting to support you or paralyze you from becoming successful. For this reason, always keep yourself positive; look towards the opportunities waiting for you and move positively towards them. Walk your journey because no one will do this for you. Not your parents, not your brothers, even your sisters are or your brothers will never walk this journey for you. They will be there to support by encouraging you, but will never walk this journey for you. You have to walk this for yourself. This is why I am telling you to take action.
