Ignite The Future

DIRECTORATE OF POSTGRADUATE STUDIES AND RESEARCH

Message from the Director of Research

Amos Ronald Kalukusu

Deputy Director of Research

Welcome to the Directorate of Postgraduate Studies and Research of King Ceasor University. It is with great enthusiasm that I introduce this Directorate, which also houses the Center for Research Innovation & Commercialization (KCU-CRIC).

Our commitment to enhancing the research output of King Ceasor University is evident through our active engagement in various initiatives. Our research endeavors are guided by the university’s comprehensive research agenda, which delineates specific themes for the School of Medicine, Health and Life Sciences, the School of Law and Management Sciences, and the School of Science, Computing, and Engineering. We align our activities with the university’s vision and mission, inspired by our motto, “Ignite the Future.”

Our aim is to support research initiatives for both students and academic faculty, while simultaneously promoting local and international collaborations. We take pride in our long-standing partnerships with esteemed research collaborators, including the Uganda Cancer Institute and Mulago National Referral Hospital, among others. Our track record in grant writing reflects our dedication, having successfully secured numerous research grants from organizations such as Pfizer Inc. and Johns Hopkins Institute in the United States.

These research initiatives have made significant contributions to the national agenda, particularly in the field of health. Highlighted below are notable research projects funded through grants:

  1. Analyzing the burden of pneumococcal disease among children under five years old subsequent to pneumococcal conjugate vaccination: Local surveillance data in Uganda.
  2. Investigating barriers to and facilitators of prostate cancer screening among men in Uganda’s prisons.
  3. Conducting cervical cancer research in collaboration with the Uganda Cancer Institute.
  4. Evaluating healthcare professionals’ knowledge of and compliance with ASCO/ESMO/GLIM guidelines for the diagnosis and management of cancer cachexia: Baseline findings from the ASSIST-CC study in Uganda.

We encourage all members of the academic faculty to persist in their research on significant issues that advance the national research agenda, thereby making meaningful contributions to societal needs.
