Network Administrator (Systems Administrator)

Engagement: Full-time Contract
Duration: 2 years, renewable upon satisfactory performance
Duty Station: Main Campus (Ggaba Road, Kampala Uganda)
Job Summary:
The Systems Administrator will be responsible for the installation, configuration, and maintenance of our IT systems and network infrastructure. You will ensure the smooth operation of our hardware and software systems, troubleshoot technical issues, and support the daily operations of the University.
Key responsibilities:
- Install, configure, and maintain operating systems, software, and hardware.
- Monitor system performance and ensure optimal uptime.
- Perform regular system backups and recovery processes.
- Troubleshoot and resolve system issues, network connectivity problems, and hardware failures.
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and access rights.
- Ensure system security through appropriate firewalls, antivirus programs, and software patches.
- Collaborate with other IT professionals and departments to implement and support various IT projects.
- Maintain detailed documentation of system configurations, procedures, and changes.
- Provide technical support and training to users as needed.
Competencies and Attributes
- Server Administration and management skills – Linux and Windows
- Security and Networking Certifications e.g. CCNA, Comptia+, CISSP are preferred.
- Storage and virtualization infrastructure skills – VMware/HP etc.
- Enterprise Wireless Management
- Advanced routing and switching skills Requirements and skills
- Must have two (2) years working experience as a Network Administrator or in a similar role.
- Experience with databases, networks (LAN, WAN) and patch management
- Knowledge of system security (e.g. intrusion detection systems) and data backup/recovery
- Ability to create scripts in Python, Perl or other language
- Strong knowledge of systems and networking software, hardware, and networking protocols.
- Strong knowledge of information security policies and procedures.
- Must be willing to be called upon to serve during non-conventional working hours.

Qualifications, Desired Skills and Experience
Excellent competency in computer Office suites (Ms-Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
BSc in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline
Professional certification (e.g. Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) is a plus
